KAMPALA, Uganda – President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has gifted the newly consecrated Bishop of the Masindi Kitara Diocese, Rt. Rev. Joshua Kugonza Amooti, a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser as a gesture of support and goodwill towards the Church of Uganda.
The vehicle was officially handed over on behalf of the President by the Minister of Local Government, Hon. Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, during a ceremony held in Kampala on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking after the handover, Hon. Balaam said the President’s gesture demonstrates his commitment to supporting religious leaders who play a vital role in guiding communities and promoting moral values across the country.
“President Museveni has gifted the new Bishop of Masindi Kitara Church of Uganda Diocese, Rt. Rev. Joshua Kugonza Amooti, a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser as a gesture of support and goodwill,” Balaam said.
Quoting scripture from 1 Timothy 5:17, the minister emphasized the importance of honoring religious leaders for their service.
“Let the elders who direct the affairs of the church well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.”
Hon. Balaam prayed for God’s continued guidance upon President Museveni, commending his leadership and support towards faith-based institutions.
“May God bless our leader, grant him wisdom and strength as he continues to serve Uganda and its people,” he said.
He also congratulated Bishop Kugonza upon his appointment and wished him a fruitful episcopal ministry marked by impactful service, spiritual growth, and God’s grace.
The gift highlights the longstanding partnership between the Government of Uganda and religious institutions in promoting social development, peace, and community transformation.
Rt. Rev. Joshua Kugonza Amooti recently assumed leadership of the Masindi Kitara Diocese, succeeding his predecessor and taking on the responsibility of shepherding thousands of Anglican faithful across the diocese.
The handover ceremony was attended by church leaders, government officials, and other invited guests.
