11 injured as Kabale bound Gateway Bus overturns

At least 10 passengers and a pedestrian have been injured when a bus carrying dozens of people from Kampala to Kabale District lost control and overturned at Rwabahaze Cell in Muhanga Town Council, Rukiga District, South Western Uganda .


The 6:58 a.m Sunday crash happened along the Ntungamo-Kabale Highway, according to Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Maate. Fortunately fatalities recorded .


“The bus, registration number UBM 707X Scania, belonging to Gateway Bus Company, was heading to Kabale from Kampala,” Maate told journalists on Sunday
He added that the injured were rushed to Rotom Health Centre in Muhanga and Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.


“It’s alleged that while the bus was coming from Kampala towards Kabale carrying passengers on board, the driver lost control at Rwabahaze Cell and knocked down a female pedestrian heading to Rwahi in Ntungamo District. The bus then hit a water trench and overturned, injuring some passengers and the pedestrian,” he explained.


He did not immediately provide details on the fate of the injured female pedestrian.
Meanwhile, the bus crash scene was visited by the District Traffic Officer of Rukiga and a team that documented the site, drew a sketch plan, recorded eyewitness statements, and towed the vehicle to Rukiga Police Station for safekeeping pending inspection.


Police said “investigations are ongoing.”

Kicoco Benson, 55, from Kampala
Asiimwe Pauson, 40, from Rubanda District
Basisha Richard, 34, a Rwandan national
Ninsima Tracey, 21, from Muhanga Town Council
