With just two weeks until the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) kicks off on August 2, 2025, Uganda is buzzing with anticipation as the Local Organising Committee (LOC) finalizes preparations. A key milestone was reached with the selection of 1,222 Ugandans for volunteer roles, following a rigorous recruitment drive that saw 1,884 applicants vying to contribute to Africa’s premier home-based football tournament.
The application process, conducted last month, attracted enthusiastic Ugandans eager to support the championship in various capacities. After strict eligibility checks, including the requirement that volunteers be 18 or older, the LOC shortlisted 1,222 candidates.
These individuals will begin comprehensive training on July 25, led by experts from the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF). The sessions will focus on venue-specific protocols, operational standards, and service excellence to ensure a seamless tournament experience.Justus Mugisha, Chairman of the Workforce and Volunteers Committee, expressed delight at the overwhelming public response.
“The enthusiasm shown by Ugandans during the application process has been remarkable,” he said, as quoted by CAF. “The sheer number of applicants reflects the excitement and lasting memories this tournament will create.
”The selected volunteers will play pivotal roles across Uganda’s designated venues, assisting with logistics, hospitality, protocol, media operations, and fan services.
