16 candidates nominated to vie for two mayoral seats in two municipalities of Masaka City

KAMPALA. A total of 16 candidates have been nominated to contested for the two mayoral seats in the municipalities of Nyendo -Mukungwe and Kimaanya -Kabonera in Masaka City .
The cleared candidates are National Unity Platform(NUP) , Democratic Front(DF) , National Resistance Movement(NRM) , Democratic Party(DP) , and People’s Front for Freedom( PFF) and independents.
Nyendo -Mukungwe attracted the highest number of contestants totalling to nine while Kimaanya -Kabonera has seven .
Out of the 16 candidates 15 are men and only one is woman .
NRM, DF, DP and NUP have two candidates each and nine candidates are independents and PFF fronted one .

NRMs Justin Nakiyingi nominated for mayor seat of Nyendo Mukungwe Division.


Moses Mulinde the NRM flag bearer has promised to ensure that government programme s in the division are implemented.
Independent Daniel Mutebi nominated for Nyendo- Mukungwe Municipality mayoral seat has promised to improve health and education service delivery .
He has also promised to fight high taxes in the municipality which he says has led to collapse of several businesses in the city.
John Jones Kisekka of PFF who is also nominated for Nyendo Mukungwe Municipality , a boxer and instructor has promised to promote talent development in youth to fight unemployment through sports.


“I am a sportsperson who is grounded and the connections I have abroad will help me to market the talented youth I will bring up in the city, and I will manage garbage by collecting it from the households and we shall be paying people for their sorted garbage instead of them paying for garbage as it’s the case with the current leadership .” He added.
The total number of directly elected councillors are 101, 68 , division women councillors and special interest groups (SIGS) are 14.

On SIGS , NRM has 12 ,NUP has two, women division councillors were however shared by NRM, DF and NUP with each having 20 while 8 are independents.
For directly elected councillors ,NRM and NUP got 26 and DF ( 24) while 21 are independents, PFF and DP have two each .
Masaka City Deputy Electoral Commission Registrar Mr Haidari Joloba says the process was successful ,adding that all those picked nomination forms have been nominated.
