18 passengers injured as another Gateway bus overturns in less than three days


KISORO .Atleast 18 passengers have been injured after a bus belonging to Gateway bus Company overturned.
The 10:50am Tuesday crash happened at Chanakye in Kanaba Sub County, along the Kisoro-Kabale Road.
According to Elly Maate, the Kigezi regional police spokesperson, the driver off the ill-fated bus which was coming from Kampala heanding to Kisoro failed to negotiate a corner due to excessive speed, resulting in brake failure.
“It’s alleged that, the bus was coming from Kabale to Kisoro, with 60 passengers on board and on reaching Chanakye trading center, it started sloping Chanakye red corner. By the time the driver applied brakes, it was too late and failed to negotiate the corner hence the vehicle overturning sideways, injuring 18 passengers,” Maate said on Tuesday


The injured passengers were rushed to different health facilities in Kisoro District for treatment. Out of the 18 injured, 15 passengers sustained minor injuries, and 3 suffered serious injuries.
This crash comes just two days after another bus belong to Gateway Bus Company overtured in Rukiga District, injuring 10 passengers and a pedestrian Police have urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads and ensure their vehicles are in good working condition to prevent such accidents.
The outgoing Kisoro officer in charge of traffic Kushaba Michael and his team visited the scene, drew a sketch plan, and had the motor vehicle towed and parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.

  5. Nakimuri Prossy, 38, from Kasambya, Mubende district
  6. Nteziyaremye Samuel, 40, from Bunagana, Kisoro
  7. Nakawesa Florence, 27, from Entebbe
  8. Tushemerirwe Gladith, 48, from Kanungu
  9. Ntakiyinanira Promise, 21, from Nyarusiza, Kisoro
  10. Byukusenge Ezira, 23, from Muramba, Kisoro
  11. Barikamanya Debra, 35, from Kisoro town
  12. Kwagara Faith, 9
  13. Higa Charles, 45, from Kampala
  14. Mujawimana Janet, 25, from Kigezi, Kanaba, Kisoro district
  15. Kwesiga Joseph, 25, from Gayaza, Kampala
