2026 Elections : Mabirizi, Kasibante nominated after Museveni

KAMPALA. Two more candidates including Robert Kasibante, the presidential flagbearer for the National Peasants Party (NPP) and Elton Joseph Mabirizi of Conservative Party have also been nominated today to contest in next year’s General Elections.

The incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was the first to get nominated nomination at the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters in Lweza .

Like Museveni ,both Kasibante and Mabirizi were accorded a 16-guard security detail and vehicle .
Speaking to the media after the nomination, Kasibante called for citizen-led change and inclusive development.

“We must break the walls of inequality. Restore dignity. The teachers, the nurses deserve a future that is certain,” he said.
“To the international community, we invite you to build a new model of inclusive development. We are the majority empowered, not exploited. I come with courage, unbreakable will. I come to you. This is your campaign.”

His remarks emphasized empowerment, equity, and a grassroots approach to governance, signaling a bid to connect directly with ordinary Ugandans.

Kasibante’s nomination marks another step in the unfolding electoral process as candidates submit their paperwork and adhere to campaign timelines set by the EC.

Observers say his focus on citizen empowerment seeks to differentiate him from other contenders, particularly in a political landscape dominated by incumbents.

The National Peasants Party, historically advocating for rural development and farmers’ rights, has stressed that Kasibante’s campaign will prioritize policies aimed at reducing inequality, improving public service delivery, and fostering inclusive growth across the country.
