KAMPALA. Opposition National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine has appointed former Kampala City deputy Lord Mayor Sulaiman Kidandala as his chief campaign logistics organiser , this publication has established .
Bobi Wine recently privately met with Kidandala while on his campaign trail in Busoga region and successfully convinced him to once again work with NUP and leads the logistics docket ahead of the January polls.
During the 2021 General Election , Kidandala was a key campaign strategist for Kyagulanyi ,but the party betrayed him and denied his the ticket for Kawempe North parliamentary seat which went to late Muhammad Segirinya.
Newzzone has learnt that during the private talk with Kidandala ,Bobi Wine apologized to him over this , and asked him to come back to the main fold –which he accepted.
Sources say that Bobi Wine openly told Kidandala that whose NUP party top decision makers disappointed and sacrificed him during the 2021 polls .He went on to tell Kidandala how he was feeling isolated after many of the senior politicians turned their back and declared war on him, especially following his tumultuous fallout with Nyendo/Mukungwe legislator and former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga’s group.
This publication has also established that Bobi Wine has tasked Kidandala to help galvanize support from especially seasoned politicians who came from what existed as DP Bloc during the DP re-union days. He told Kidandala that he badly needed him to help him assemble of old UYD alumni who used to belong to what came to be known as the “UYD Johnson Street faction.” These used to autonomously operate an office at London Chambers building near City Square even when they claimed to be part of the DP youth wing.
“ You wait , he will soon be unveiled at NUP headquarters at Makerere -Kavule as someone holding that docket ,though for him he prefers working quietly since he has just returned in the country ,” a source inside NUP top management said on Thursday morning
The source said Kidandala will work alongside one of NUP lawyers John Paul Kakande and other selected former UYD members.
Kidandala , a former organizing secretary of Uganda’s oldest political party –DP , came back to Uganda a couple of months ago and has deliberately been living quietly .This came after being released from a South Korean jail, over human trafficking-related charges.
