KAMPALA.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Mr Robert Kyagulanyi , popularly known as Bobi Wine, has officially submitted his expression of interest to run for President of Uganda on his party ticket in next year’s General Elections.
Mr Kyagulanyi, who aims to unseat President Museveni and end his four – decade rule, presented his nomination forms on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at the party’s headquarters in Kavule, a Kampala suburb .
He was accompanied by his wife Barbara Itungo, son Shadrack Mbogo, and relatives of jailed NUP supporters . He was received by an enthusiastic crowd and welcomed by Ms Harriet Chemutai, chairperson of the NUP Election Management Committee (EMC), along with other committee members.

Kyagulanyi submitted his academic credentials, party membership card, and expression of interest forms, declaring his readiness to carry the NUP flag into next year’s presidential race.
Addressing supporters and journalists shortly after, Mr Kyagulanyi said:
“We are ready to go. Our mission is to end the 40-year rule of Mr Museveni and free Ugandans from oppression and suffering. Many of our people, like Yasin Ssekitoleko (alias Machete), Edward Ssebuufu (Eddie Mutwe), and John Bosco Kibalama, remain in illegal detention. This fight is for them too.”
He assured party members of his commitment:
“My promise to you, members of NUP: I will not let you down. I will use all my strength in this protest vote to bring about victory. I believe in the collective power of Ugandans.”

NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya explained that the party advertised the presidential flag bearer slot under Article 6.3 (f) (ii) of the NUP Constitution from June 18 to June 25.
“The process was transparent. We only received two applications. One was from Kyagulanyi and the other from a female applicant who, unfortunately, didn’t meet the requirements,” Mr Rubongoya said

Mr John Mary Ssebuwufu, EMC Commissioner for the Buganda region, confirmed the female applicant failed to rectify her documents before the deadline.
“She was advised to fix the gaps, but did not return in time. Therefore, Mr Kyagulanyi remains the only qualified aspirant,” he noted.
