KAMPALA.
Just two weeks left to the presidential nominations , the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has submitted the signatures to the Electoral Commission which are required to nominate its leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine .
The early submission of signatures ,according to NUP officials will allow EC officials time to scrutinize them and give them feedback before nominations kickoff on September 23.
According to NUP Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya they have collected more signatures than required by EC .
“ Signatures nominating our President Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert submitted ! Very grateful to the very many citizens who defied the sense of fear and intimidation to endorse this change,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter ) on Wednesday.
“We have submitted over and above the required number of signatures because of the overwhelming number of people willing to endorse on them ” he added
The EC requires each presidential aspirant to secure endorsements from voters in at least two-thirds of Uganda’s districts or 100 signatures from registered voters from 98 districts before being cleared for nomination.

Bobi Wine’s successful submission moves NUP a step closer to the official nomination stage. Over 200 presidential hopefuls picked nomination forms and embarked on collecting signatures and it not yet clear how many will successfully make it to the ballot paper .
According to the EC, presidential nominations will be held on September 23–24, 2025, while parliamentary nominations will follow on October 15–16, 2025.

The General Election is scheduled for January 12 , 2026. If cleared by EC ,it will be Bobi Wine second shot at the presidency – a coveted seat Museveni ,81 has occupied since he shot his way to power in 1986 after a five –year guerilla war in the juggles of Luweero that left over 400,0000 Ugandans dead .
