MUBENDE. Alliance for National Transformation(ANT) presidential flag bearer Maj Gen(Rtd) Mugisha Muntu has promised to tackle corruption and self-centred individuals in civil service .
Canvassing for votes in Mubende District on Friday , Muntu vowed that individuals who are bent on personal enrichment will have no place in his government if elected President in the January polls .
‘’ The era of people who enter public office for personal gain will end in 2026 if I become president , you must occupy a public office to service the people ,’’ he said
On the trail in Mubende ,Muntu was accompanied by ANT members, including the party’s Woman MP flag bearer for Mubende District, Yudayah Nakatudde Sebayigga.
Addressing residents at Kassambya Town Council, Muntu criticized President Museveni for what he described as decades of failed leadership.
“We all know that since independence, Ugandan presidents have suffered from the disease of overstaying in power. We must work together to ensure that this comes to an end,” he said.
He pledged to stamp out corruption and protect public funds, saying he would not tolerate the misuse of taxpayers’ money.
“If you, the voters, elect me as president, you will see how our government will fight corruption. I have been tested and trusted with big positions in the army,” Muntu said.
In Nabingoola Town Council, Muntu noted that across all areas he has visited, citizens express frustration over poor health services, corruption, weak infrastructure, and widespread poverty.
“Since morning, I have been moving across different areas, and people are complaining about the same challenges. You now have one chance to change this country and make everyone accountable — that will happen if you trust the Alliance for National Transformation,” he said.
During his stopover at Lubimbiri Subcounty, some residents interrupted the rally to air their grievances directly to Muntu.
They cited poor roads, lack of medicine in health centres, and lack of markets for their produce.
“We have suffered a lot in this area. We are farmers, but our crops have no market, the roads are poor, and there is no medicine in hospitals. We are tired of this government,” one resident said.
In response, Muntu listened attentively before introducing ANT’s Woman MP aspirant Nakatudde Yudayah, urging voters to support her in the upcoming election.
“People of Mubende, I am requesting you to vote for Yudayah Nakatudde as your Woman Member of Parliament in 2026 because she is capable of fighting for you and transforming your district,” he said.
In her address, Nakatudde echoed the call for change, saying Mubende’s voters deserve accountable leadership.
“We have been voting for leaders, but most of them have betrayed us. You all know how they passed the Coffee Bill, the UPDF Bill, and others, yet we continue to face many challenges. I am requesting you to vote for me,” she said.
