2026 polls: I will remove soldiers from lakes –Bobi Wine

SEMBABULE . The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi , popularly known as Bobi Wine has said the first executive order he will sign if elected in the January 15 polls will be chasing soldiers from all water bodies .

In January 2017 , President Museveni formed Fisheries Protection Unit(FPU) to crackdown on illegal fishing on Ugandan water bodies which was blamed for the dwindling fish stocks in the country. Although the work of soldiers under FPU has been commended by a section of stakeholders in the fisheries sub sector, many politicians and fishermen have criticized them over their high-handedness in dealing with people suspected of engaging in illegal fishing.

He said soldiers under Fisheries Protection Unit (FPU) have caused untold suffering to fishermen and need to return to the barracks.

“ I want to assure you that if you elect me President , the first two executive orders I will sign will be on removing soldiers from the lakes and another on releasing all political prisoners ,” he said while addressing a rally at Sembabule District playground on Tuesday

Mr Kyagulanyi, who insists his movement is for a “New Uganda,” decried what he termed “divide and rule” politics.

Mr Kyagulanyi stressed NUP’s guiding philosophy, insisting, “We are not driven by anger or malice, but by a manifesto—we want a New Uganda.”

He proceeded to question the current government’s fiscal discipline, painting a picture of massive corruption.

“A service worth just Shs.1 million shillings ends up costing a billion or even a trillion in public funds,” he charged.

Mr Kyagulanyi firmly stated that if elected President ,he will not tolerate what he termed the politics of “divide and rule,” instead calling for “Unity for change.”
“ Don’t accept to be divided because of your tribes , health services or roads benefit all people and nobody can ask you if you are a Muganda, Munyankole or Mukiga to offer you such services,” he said

Sembaule is a multi-lingual district with people of different tribes spread in 14 sub counties and three councils of Mateete, Ntuusi and Sembabule.
From Sembabule ,the NUP leader crossed to neigbouring Lyantonde District where he held his final rally .
