2026 polls : Museveni launches manifesto today as Kyagulanyi heads to Jinja

KAMPALA. Ruling National Resistance Movement flagbearer Yoweri Museveni is today set to unveil his manifesto as next year’s General Elections fever starts to catch up .

According to NRM officials, the party manifesto launch will catapult the party to the 2026 general election campaigns that they kick off with a mega rally in Luweero, where Mr Museveni launched his guerilla war that brought him to power 45 years ago.

The manifesto for the next five years will run under the theme; “Protecting the Gains as We Make a Qualitative Leap into a High Middle Income Status” as the ruling party seeks to protect its gains for the last 39 years but also propel further development.

President Museveni recently said that his main aim is to ensure every Ugandan joins the money economy . and 68 percent were not engaged in any form of money. I am glad with our efforts, that figure has now gone down. By the last census only 33 percent were outside the money economy.

I am now appealing to the 33 percent to join so that they also create wealth in a modern way. This is what drives our slogan of protecting the gains and a qualitative leap to a high middle -income status,” Museveni said during his post-nomination rally at Kololo Independence grounds. In the new manifesto, the NRM seeks to make the tenfold growth strategy a reality, anchoring the country’s growth to a high middle income status on agriculture, tourism, science and technology(ICT) and mineral development.

According to Museveni, in the next phase of the country’s development, government will put much emphasis on adding value on the country’s exports and support local manufacturing among others.Speaking recently, the first NRM vice chairperson, Al-Hajji Moses Kigongo said the party will be seeking to build on what it has achieved in the past.“Our journey has not been easy, but through discipline, unity, and the support of Ugandans, we have reached this point.

This theme is a call to protect the gains we have made together and to boldly step forward into a future of shared prosperity,” Kigongo said.NRM Secretary General, Richard Todwong says from the 10-point programme in 1986, to “Tackling the Tasks Ahead” in the late 1990s, “Consolidating Achievements” in the early 2000s, “Prosperity for All,” “Peace, Unity and Transformation,” “Steady Progress,” and most recently “Securing Your Future,” each theme, he noted, has reflected the priorities of its time.“Today’s theme builds on that legacy.

Uganda’s economy is growing at about 7% annually, with a GDP of nearly $45 billion, placing us firmly on the path to middle income status. The task now is to protect those gains and make the qualitative leap into a higher middle-income economy,” Todwong explained. As Museveni launches the manifesto ,his main challenger and National UUnity Platform flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi is heading to Jinja where he is going to launch his campaigns.
