2026 polls: Presidential campaigns kick off September 29, as MPs hit trail on October 22


KAMPALA. The Electoral Commission has revised the campaign programme for both presidential and parliamentary candidates ahead of next January’s General Elections.


Officially receiving the EC 10-acre permanent home at Lweza along Kampala –Entebbe Road, EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama announced that presidential hopefuls who will be nominated between September 23-25, will kick off their campaigns on September 29, not October 4, as earlier planned.


Justice Byamukama said MP aspirants who were scheduled to be nominated on October 16, will now be nominated on October 22-23.
He said the new EC site, handed over by the National Housing Corporation will now be used for major electoral activities including serving as tally centre after the January polls.

According to EC records, at least 30 presidential aspirants have already returned their documents to EC for scrutiny .

But on Friday the EC ordered National Unity Platform flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi to collect more signatures in the excess of 18,000 signatures .

According to EC , NUP had failed to raise the legal threshold of 98,000 signatures from 98 districts .
