Uganda Set to Host 15th EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games in December

Uganda has confirmed that it will host the 15th edition of the East African Community (EAC) Inter-Parliamentary Games in Kampala this December, with organisers promising a vibrant event that will celebrate regional unity and deepen public awareness of East African integration.

Addressing journalists at Parliament on Monday, Local Organising Committee Chairperson Hon. Asuman Basalirwa said preparations are in high gear with venues, logistics, and health services already lined up. He noted that the Games will not only bring together legislators and parliamentary staff from across the region but will also showcase Uganda’s capacity to host large scale regional events.

The Games, slated for December 5 – 17, 2025, are expected to attract delegations from all EAC partner states. Uganda took over hosting duties after Burundi’s withdrawal and organisers say the event will feature a range of sporting disciplines including football, netball, basketball, volleyball, athletics, tug-of-war and darts for persons with disabilities.

Basalirwa emphasised that the Games are more than a sporting competition,  they are an avenue to strengthen people-to-people connections and promote the EAC’s goal of regional cooperation. He added that legislators will use the platform to interact with citizens, discuss integration, and encourage cross-border unity through sport.

To ensure safety and efficiency, organisers have earmarked key facilities such as Mulago National Referral Hospital and other leading hospitals to provide medical support throughout the tournament. Stadiums in and around Kampala have been identified for various matches and a detailed fixture will be released soon.

Uganda’s Parliament has encouraged citizens to turn out in large numbers to support their representatives, describing the Games as both a sporting celebration and a civic lesson in regional solidarity.

With the countdown underway, Kampala is gearing up to welcome hundreds of delegates, athletes and fans from across East Africa for what is expected to be one of the most exciting editions of the EAC Inter-Parliamentary Games yet.
