Buganda Kingdom is mourning the passing of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi’s sister Princess Diana Balizzamuggale Teyeggala .
Teyeggala ,59 was the last-born child of Edward Frederick Muteesa II, has died after a period of illness,Buganda Kingdom said on Saturday.
The kingdom said Princess Teyeggala passed away at a medical facility in Kisubi, Entebbe . No details were given about the illness.
Born in October 1966 while her father, Ssekabaka Muteesa II, was in exile, Princess Diana never met him before his death.
Her mother was Princess Catherine Karungu of Ankole, according to Buganda royal records.
Princess Teyeggala was a younger sister of the reigning monarch, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, and a member of the immediate Buganda royal family.
Buganda’s prime minister, Charles Peter Mayiga, confirmed the death and conveyed condolences on behalf of the Kabaka, the royal household and the kingdom, urging the public to observe calm and respect the family’s privacy.
Beyond her royal lineage, Princess Teyeggala was known for her involvement in faith-based and community initiatives, particularly within Uganda’s Buddhist community, where she supported education and spiritual development programmes.
Uganda’s traditional kingdoms are recognised under the constitution as cultural institutions without executive political authority, but they retain significant social and moral influence, especially in the central region where Buganda is the largest and most prominent.
The Buganda Kingdom said funeral and burial arrangements would be announced in due course.
