The Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, Her Excellency Maj. (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, has officially declared her Income, Assets, and Liabilities to the Inspectorate of Government (IG), emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in public office.
This declaration was made during a meeting with a team from the IG, led by Deputy IGG Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria, at the Office of the President on Tuesday. H.E. Alupo praised the IG’s Online Declaration System (IG-ODS), calling it an efficient tool for ensuring that leaders comply with the Leadership Code Act, which requires public servants to disclose their wealth.
The declaration process for 2025 began on March 1 and will end on March 31. According to the Leadership Code Act, it is mandatory for public officers and leaders to submit their declarations of income, assets, and liabilities to the IG. However, this year, only those specified in the second schedule of the Leadership Code Act are required to declare.
Public servants who fail to comply with this directive will face investigation by the IG and potential prosecution before the Leadership Code Tribunal. Such measures are designed to maintain integrity within public service by holding officials accountable for their financial dealings, preventing corruption, and fostering public trust.
The declaration system is part of the government’s commitment to ensuring that leaders operate with transparency, and it is seen as a vital step in the fight against corruption. The Deputy IGG, accompanied by senior IG officials, encouraged more leaders to follow the example set by the Vice President and make their declarations in a timely manner.
By fostering a culture of openness, the government aims to create a fairer, more accountable public service that upholds the values of good governance.
