The National Entrepreneurs and Traders Association (NETA) has reported a new education support initiative that will see scholarships and bursaries extended to needy learners in Uganda, this will cater from early childhood education to tertiary.
The programme is designed to support orphans, academically promising learners and students from financially constrained households as part of NETA’s broader social responsibility agenda that links economic empowerment with community development.
Unlike conventional fee only sponsorships, the association says the support package will go further to include scholastic materials, psycho-social support, mentorship opportunities and structured pathways into internships, industrial training and employment. NETA believes this approach will help beneficiaries not only stay in school but also transition more smoothly into the world of work.
NETA Uganda president Thadeus Nagenda said the initiative reflects the association’s philosophy of responding directly to the needs of its members and communities. “Our role is to identify real challenges affecting our people and provide practical solutions,” he said, adding that eligible learners will also receive learning materials as part of the support.
As a national umbrella body for entrepreneurs and traders, NETA offers its members services such as access to low interest and emergency loans, legal aid, tax education, business promotion, networking, skills development and advocacy. The education support programme, according to the association, complements these efforts by investing in human capital and strengthening long term socio economic resilience.
NETA says further details on eligibility and rollout will be communicated as the programme takes shape with the goal of ensuring that financial hardship does not stand in the way of education and opportunity.
