The Uganda Consulate in Mombasa has announced that the Uganda–Kenya Coast partnership received the Cross-Border Coastal Tourism Resilience Award at the 4th Global Tourism Resilience Day Awards ceremony held on 17 February 2026 at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi.

The event was presided over by Rebecca Miano, Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, who served as Chief Guest during the celebrations that brought together tourism leaders, policymakers, and industry stakeholders from across the globe.

Global Tourism Resilience Day is an international forum dedicated to recognizing organizations and institutions that demonstrate excellence in sustainable tourism, conservation, crisis management, safety, and long-term recovery strategies. Kenya marked a significant milestone by becoming the first African nation to host the prestigious global event.

The award acknowledged the collaborative efforts led by the Uganda Consulate in Mombasa and its partners in strengthening marine conservation initiatives, coordinating cross-border crisis response, and enhancing joint coastal destination management. The partnership has fostered closer cooperation between the two countries, particularly in safeguarding coastal ecosystems and promoting sustainable tourism practices.

Launched in 2022, the Uganda–Kenya Coast initiative was established to deepen tourism ties between the two nations. Since its inception, the program has significantly boosted awareness of Uganda’s tourism offerings along Kenya’s coast, contributing to a noticeable rise in the number of Kenyan travelers visiting Uganda.

This recognition underscores Uganda’s growing influence in regional tourism development and its commitment to building resilient, sustainable tourism systems that support economic growth and cooperation within the East African region.
