Security Urged to Crack Down on Impostors Amid Rising Concerns Over Ritual Killings

By Nasser Kayanja
Security operatives have been called upon to remain vigilant against individuals posing as traditional leaders and conducting unauthorized operations targeting alleged fake healers and practitioners.

The appeal was made by Jjemba Lumiramayengo, President General of the Federation of Traditional Healers and Herbalists Association, during a press conference held in Makindye.

His remarks follow a disturbing child sacrifice case reported in Luwero District. The victim, a 12-year-old identified as Godfrey Lulu, a resident of Kibuye, was found dead in the rocks of Walusinsi, showing signs consistent with ritual sacrifice. In response, several individuals claiming to be traditional leaders have initiated independent operations aimed at tracking down the perpetrators.

However, Lumiramayengo cautioned that the federation is already handling the matter through sensitization efforts among traditional healers in Luwero before undertaking any enforcement actions. He warned that impostors are exploiting the situation to extort money from practitioners and legitimize unqualified individuals—actions he said will not be tolerated.

He urged security agencies to take immediate action against such individuals, emphasizing that anyone not recognized by the federation should be arrested.

Lumiramayengo also criticized the emergence of self-imposed leaders, noting that rather than associating with fraudulent practitioners, efforts should focus on economically empowering legitimate traditional healers. He encouraged initiatives such as forming SACCOs, engaging in alternative income-generating activities, and promoting awareness within the sector.

In a related development, he called on all independent traditional healers’ associations to unite under the federation. He said this would strengthen efforts to eliminate fraudulent practitioners and help curb cases of child and human sacrifice across the country.
