Flood victims under the Federation of Uganda Traders Association (FUTA Traders) have suspended their planned industrial action that was set to begin on March 25, following a reconciliation meeting with the Ministry of Finance.

FUTA President, John Kabanda, while addressing a press conference at their offices in the New Taxi Park in Kampala, said that progress had been made after engagements with the Ministry of Finance and other stakeholders. He noted that the government had committed in writing to address their concerns within the next three months, including the release of Shs20 billion for compensation.

Kabanda urged the more than 1,000 affected traders to call off the planned demonstrations to avoid disrupting the agreed process.

Some of the victims, who spoke to The NewzZone online , appealed to the government and relevant authorities to ensure that the compensation process is handled promptly and fairly.
