UMSC nominates first female as Deputy Director of Sharia

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) National Management Committee, in its weekly Tuesday meeting chaired by His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda, has nominated Sheikhati Nakabugo Zainabu as the second Deputy Director of Sharia in charge of female affairs. The nomination is pending formal appointment by the relevant UMSC organs during their upcoming mandatory meetings, as stipulated in the UMSC Constitution.

Sheikhati Zainabu Nakabugo is among the many Ugandan Muslims who benefited from scholarships lobbied by UMSC from Libya during the era of the late President Muammar Gaddafi.

She holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Sharia from Islamic Call University College, Tripoli, Libya, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), and is currently a PhD candidate in Sharia at IUIU. She has already commenced her duties. Before this, she headed the Islamic and Sharia Department at the UMSC-based Islamic Call University (ICU) in Old Kampala.
