Redo Kampala population census for effective service delivery: New lord Mayor Balimwezo

The Newly Elected Lord Mayor of Kampala His Lordship Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga Saalongo wants a recount of Kampala population for effective service delivery.

Balimwezo made this remark while making his inaugural speech soon after swearing in as the Lord Mayor at the City Hall in Kampala.

The function gathered political leaders from all walks of life headed by the Minister of Kampala Miisa Kabanda the Leader of Opposition Rt Hon Joel Ssenyonyi among others ended with messages of intended poor service delivery. Balimwezo says that with fewer schools, hospitals, markets and narrow road network, Kampala has an influx of dwellers but suspects that the Uganda Bureau of Statistics under-declared its population.

He wants a recount of both the night’s and day’s population to ascertain the very population of the city for effective service delivery.

He further says that the major challenge affecting service delivery in the city is underfunding and corruption, which he will stand to fight with his endeavors.

Saalongo Ronald Balimwezo Nsubuga has also declined the promotion of constructing landfills as a way to solve the garbage challenges, saying that he has already consulted various companies to turn garbage into an economic income.

In a related development, the Authority leadership is set to elect among them the Speaker of Council tomorrow, then the deputy lord mayor soon.
