Ugandans transacted 2.37 billion through mobile money transactions in the first quarter of 2026.
This is about Shs26 million a day—underscoring mobile money’s role as the backbone of everyday financial activity, according to a new Uganda Communications Commission report.
Over the same period, data usage hit 256.8 million gigabytes and USSD sessions reached 19.1 billion, highlighting the scale of digital financial and telecom services.
Voice traffic remained dominated by domestic on-net calls at 20.9 billion minutes, far exceeding the 1.8 billion minutes of off-net calls, while regional one-net area traffic and international calls accounted for a much smaller share.
The figures collectively paint a picture of an economy increasingly powered by mobile-based payments, data consumption, and voice services concentrated within individual networks.
