NEC FC continued their impressive run in the league with a commanding 3-1 victory over Express FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Thursday. The crucial win reduces the gap between NEC and table leaders Vipers SC to just two points, keeping their title ambitions alive.

Early Lead Sets the Tone

NEC FC wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Muzamiru Mutyaba finding the net in the 4th minute after a well-timed assist from Marvin Kavuma. The early goal provided the hosts with a strong start and set the tempo for the game.

Kavuma turned provider again in the 20th minute, delivering a pinpoint pass to Paul Mucureezi, who doubled NEC’s advantage. The buildup to the goal was initiated by goalkeeper Hannington Ssebwalunyo, whose long ball into the box was expertly controlled by Kavuma before setting up Mucureezi.

Second-Half Action

Express FC struggled to contain NEC’s relentless attacking play, and substitute Allan Mugalu made an immediate impact. Coming on for Enock Ssebagala, Mugalu found the back of the net in the 54th minute to extend the hosts’ lead to 3-0.

Despite Express FC’s struggles, they managed to grab a consolation goal through substitute Conrad Ssenjogera in the 81st minute, ensuring they avoided a complete shutout.

Title Race Heats Up

The victory propels NEC FC to 47 points, just two shy of league leaders Vipers SC, who are set to face SC Villa on Saturday. Meanwhile, Express FC remain in seventh place with 28 points, as they continue to battle for a stronger league position.

With the title race intensifying, NEC FC’s determination and consistency make them serious contenders as the season progresses.
