KASSANDA.Police in Kassanda District have arrested five suspects in connection with the murder of a couple during an aggravated robbery in Lukira Village, Myanzi Sub-county.
According to Wamala Region police spokesperson SSP Kigozi, the suspects were linked to the killing of the late Ssali Joseph, 48, and his wife, Mariza Regina, whose bodies were recovered days apart after the 2 July attack at the home of Mr Lukwago.
Kigozi said police recovered exhibits, including motorcycles believed to have been used in the crime, and that the arrests followed leads from the scene and a breakthrough involving one suspect from Masaka City. The suspects are Nakavuma Joan, 38, Kasumba Babangida, 26, Nsereko Meddy alias Baamu Mukooki, 32, Kule Damian, 24, and Yamulemye John alias Doctor, 23.
Kigozi said the case had caused “immense fear and grief” in Lukira and the wider Wamala region, adding that police are relying on both human and forensic investigation tools to crack such crimes. He said the suspects will be taken to court once the resident state attorney sanctions the charges
