The Tooro Kingdom has issued an urgent appeal for calm and prayers following official confirmation that the Omukama (King) of Tooro, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, is critically ill.
The development was confirmed in an official statement released on Thursday, August 27, 2026, by the Kingdom’s Prime Minister (Omuhikirwa), Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki.
Addressing the Tooro subjects and the broader public via a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister conveyed the grave health situation of the 34-year-old monarch, who has ruled the Western Uganda kingdom since succeeding his father, King Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III, in September 1995.
“This is to inform you that His Majesty King Oyo is currently in a critical condition,” the statement read in part. “At this difficult and deeply concerning time, we humbly ask the people of Tooro, our friends and well-wishers in Uganda and across the world to keep His Majesty in their thoughts and prayers.”
Amid mounting concern across the region, the Prime Minister strongly cautioned against the spread of unverified reports and public panic, assuring that official updates would be communicated directly through the kingdom’s designated channels.
“We equally appeal to everyone to refrain from speculation, rumours or sharing unverified information regarding His Majesty’s condition,” Rwomiire stated. “We understand the concern and anxiety that news of this nature will naturally cause, but we ask for calm, restraint and respect for His Majesty and the Royal Family. The official channels of Tooro Kingdom will provide updates as and when appropriate. For now, we ask that we stand together in prayer for His Majesty.”
King Oyo, who was crowned at the age of three as the world’s youngest reigning monarch, has led the cultural institution for over three decades. Kingdom authorities have not disclosed the nature of his illness or his current location, but further updates are expected as his medical team attends to him.
