Police close to arresting key suspect in murdering Entebbe couple

ENTEBBE.

The police have embarked on analyzing the images of a man suspected to be behind the murder of a couple in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso District.
The image , according to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire was extracted from a CCTV camera footage of the attack in at the deceased’s home in Lugonjo last Sunday.
He said their forensic experts are currently processing the images so that they can identify the key suspect.


“Right now, they are trying to develop the images of the suspect. The home had CCTV cameras, which captured him,” he said on Wednesday .
Mr David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife, Ms Florence Mutaaga, 62, who returned to Uganda from Europe three years ago where they had for over three decades , were found dead in their fenced house on Plot 17, Research Road in Lugonjo at around 9:30pm on Sunday.


The suspect, who had concealed part of his face, is said to have gained access to the home by scaling the wall and holding onto the avocado tree. The window of the master bedroom and the tiles in the roof were found damaged. It is not clear whether the suspect entered the house through the window or the roof.

After the attack by stabbing, the suspect exited the residence through the main gate. Often when the police fail to recognise the suspects, they release the images in the media to enable the public to identify them. Mr Owoyesigyire said several other experts in different fields are also following up on other leads to identify the suspect and his motive, but he declined to divulge details because it would jeopardize their investigations.


The suspect is said to have left fingerprints at the crime scene. The scene of crime officers lifted the fingerprints and they are processing them to establish if they are linked to anyone who has ever accessed the residence before. Neighbours of the deceased said the couple rarely got visitors, but interacted a lot with vulnerable people in the area and they started paying school fees for some.

Two of the couple’s house helps, who were at the home before the incident and were the first responders, are still held by the police. Police are still analysing CCTV footage that covers hours of footage captured at the deceased’s residence for several months to get more clues to the murder.
