Mandela National Stadium Declared Fit for CHAN 2025, Uganda Ready to Shine

KAMPALA, Uganda – The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially approved Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, as a host venue for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), marking a significant milestone for Uganda as it prepares to co-host the prestigious continental tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

The announcement follows a rigorous final inspection conducted on July 9, 2025, as part of an eight-day assessment tour across the three East African nations.CAF’s inspection team, comprising experts in Competitions, Marketing, Media, Broadcast, Safety & Security, and Infrastructure, evaluated Namboole’s readiness, focusing on its infrastructure, safety protocols, media facilities, and broadcast capabilities.

The stadium met all required standards, securing its place among the elite venues for CHAN 2025, scheduled to run from August 2 to 30, 2025.This historic tournament marks the first time the East African region will co-host a major CAF event.

Alongside Namboole, other approved venues include Kenya’s Kasarani Stadium, set to host the final, and Nyayo International Stadium. In Tanzania, the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam will stage the opening ceremony, with Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar also confirmed as a host venue.

CAF praised the high level of preparedness demonstrated by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, describing the inspection tour as a critical step toward ensuring a world-class tournament. The football body highlighted the strong collaboration between the Local Organising Committees (LOCs) and the respective governments, commending their investments in infrastructure and commitment to delivering a seamless championship.

“The approval of Mandela National Stadium is a testament to Uganda’s dedication to hosting a memorable CHAN 2025,” said a CAF spokesperson. “We are impressed by the region’s collective efforts and look forward to a tournament that will unite and inspire football fans across Africa.
