One person has been confirmed dead and four others injured in a Monday morning single vehicle crash.
According to Uganda Police Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson, ASP Michael Kananura, the accident occurred at approximately 1:30 AM at Katovu Village in Ngongwe, along the Katosi–Nyenga Road in Buikwe District.
The deceased has been identified as Innocent Bizimana aka Mafene , a driver of the ill-fated bus .Those injured include; ASP Amukede Mary, Arering Enock ,SGT Akello Angela ,a member of the Prisons Brash Band and un identified male victim admitted at Nkokonjeru Health Hospital.
The crash involved a Scania bus, registration number UA 354AN, en route from Kampala to Soroti via the Mukono- Katosi route.
Police preliminary investigations revealed that a front tyre of the bus burst forcing the driver to lose control .It overturned to the right side of the driver , killing him on the spot and injuring four passengers.
“The driver died instantly, while four passengers sustained injuries of varying degrees,” Kananura confirmed in a statement.
He said police responded promptly, transporting the injured to Nkonkonjeru Health Centre and Kawolo Hospital.
Mr Kananura says tyre bursts and poor vehicle maintenance are among the leading mechanical causes of motor crashes on Ugandan highways .
“Motorists must conduct regular vehicle maintenance, especially tyre inspections, and strictly adhere to road safety regulations,” Kananura emphasized. “A simple oversight can have fatal consequences.”
This is the second fatal crash on the same route in a space of two months .On May 5, 2025 a bus belong to YY Coaches bus company caught fire after a crash t on the Nyenga-Kisoga road in Buikwe District.
The bus, traveling from Katosi to Jinja, overturned and burst into flames, reportedly after the driver lost control. At least three people were killed and 30 injured in the incident.
