Anticipation is building for the 2025 Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, with Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) unveiling this year’s official race kit just two weeks before the event.
The launch, held at UBL headquarters in Kampala, drew media personalities, fitness influencers, and event partners. This year’s kit merges functionality with symbolism, highlighted by a white race shirt representing the glaciers of Mt. Rwenzori, now rapidly disappearing due to climate change. The shirt’s design, accented with Tusker Lite’s signature green, doubles as a call to protect the iconic mountain range.
Participants will also receive a technical running cap for sun protection, a running belt for essentials, and a drawstring bag for race-day gear. Finishers of the 42km marathon will take home gold medals engraved with the Equator, marking the world’s only marathon to start on the Equator, while 21km participants will receive silver medals.
Now in its fourth edition, the marathon is scheduled for August 23 in Kasese. First held in 2022, it was created to promote the Rwenzori region as a hub for eco-tourism, adventure, and wellness. It has since grown into an international event, attracting runners from more than 25 countries.
“This marathon is more than a race, it’s a celebration of courage, national pride, and shared ambition,” said Catherine Ndungu, UBL’s Marketing & Innovations Director. “It inspires a new generation of goal-driven Ugandans and shines a global spotlight on Kasese and the Rwenzori region.”
The 2025 event will feature four race categories: the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km challenge run, and a 5km fun run dubbed Here for the Vibes. Organizers expect more than 6,000 participants, making it the largest edition yet.
The marathon is organized by Equator Hikes in partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board, Standard Chartered Bank, and KIA. Registration is ongoing at www.mtrwenzorimarathon.com.
