The Deputy Inspector General of Government (DIGG), Mrs. Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, has directed disciplinary action against 20 Kisoro District officials implicated in misappropriating over UGX 14 million intended for agricultural extension services.
This follows findings from an investigation by the Kabale Regional Office of the Inspectorate of Government (IG), which uncovered fraudulent accounting by officers within the Production and Marketing Department for funds allocated in the first quarter of the 2023/2024 financial year.
The IG’s statement, released Monday, revealed that each of the officials submitted forged receipts and fake activity reports to justify their refund claims, totaling UGX 14,053,825. Upon verification, the attached documents were deemed fraudulent, prompting the IG to take corrective measures.
The IG has instructed Kisoro District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Mr. John Nyakahuma, to take disciplinary action against the culprits. Each officer has also been ordered to return the misappropriated funds to the IG Assets Recovery Account held at the Bank of Uganda.
