NUP opens Eastern region headquarters in Iganga ahead of 2026 polls

IGANGA . The National Unity Platform (NUP) has officially unveiled its eastern regional offices in Iganga District .
The office was constructed secretly with many of its supporters and security agencies knowing about the project .

The facility, located in the heart of Busoga Sub-region, will serve as a command center for NUP’s activities across Eastern Uganda.
NUP Principal Robert Kyagulanyi commonly known as Bobi Wine, said it was intentional to construct the offices secretly , citing fears that state operatives would have disrupted the project had they known earlier.

“We purchased this land over a year ago, and started constructing our headquarters. I am thankful that up until this morning, nobody except those who needed to know, got to know that it was us building in that place,” said Kyagulanyi revealed on Monday while officially opening the offices adding

“No wonder, the police showed up asking why we chose to surprise them with a visit. Well, because if they had known, they would have done everything possible to frustrate us,” .

The decision to keep the project underground reflects the opposition party’s increasing caution in dealing with state surveillance and alleged attempts to curtail its political activities.

Kyagulanyi applauded the NUP regional leaders and officials for their “tireless efforts” in maintaining the secrecy that enabled the project to reach completion.

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi echoed the same sentiment, describing the unveiling as both a triumph of strategy and resilience.

“Just like our National Headquarters in Kavule, we kept this development low-key for the last one year to avoid being disrupted by the regime in their usual predictable ways. We’re glad to have unveiled the finished work today,” Ssenyonyi said.
He said more offices will be constructed in other regions .
