KAMPALA. The Election Management Committee of National Unity Platform (NUP) has made a U-turn, withdrawing cards which had been extended to eleven members vying for various positions at local councils.
In a statement shared on NUP official X handle , the party said the special committee which was put in place to receive and handle complaints arising out of candidates selection processes had resolved in favour of the complainants.
‘’The rest of the complaints have not succeeded. Please note that the mandate of the Committee is limited to correcting errors and dealing with other technical issues, as opposed to dealing with opinion based complaints, which would require a full hearing. This is because of the limited time before candidates go for nomination,’’ the statement reads in part before releasing the final list of flag bearers for Kampala City .However , most of those whose flags have been withdrawn are at lower councils like councilors at Division level .
“ Only candidates whose names appear on this list will be endorsed by the Party beginning tomorrow. We wish the successful candidates the best of luck,” the party statement adds
The final lists comes just a day to the local council nominations by Uganda Electoral Commission which will be conducted between September 3 and September 5.
