AI Is No Longer Optional, Experts Tell Ugandan Firms to Act Now

Business and technology experts have cautioned that Ugandan companies must urgently adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) if they are to remain competitive in today’s fast changing global economy.

The warning was issued during the AI CEO Table Talks organised by the American Chamber of Commerce Uganda (AmCham Uganda), where leaders emphasized that AI has become a core driver of efficiency, revenue growth and operational resilience.

AUI Global senior executive Deborah Bartlett told participants that AI was no longer a futuristic tool but an essential investment for any serious business.
“AI can make a significant difference not only in your income and revenue growth but also in incurring your expenses, it reduces risks and losses and you will make more money,” she said.

Experts at the forum explained that AI is already transforming key sectors worldwide from finance and retail to agriculture and manufacturing through automation, datadriven decision making and predictive analytics. Sama’s Joshua Okello noted that well designed AI systems can cut costs, speed up processes and help companies maximise return on investment.

However, the specialists warned against unplanned or poorly executed AI adoption. They stressed that businesses need to build internal capacity, develop clear strategies and understand data management before deploying AI. Without this, companies risk system failures, inefficiencies or ethical challenges.

Participants also called for stronger government support including policies and regulations that ensure responsible, secure and inclusive AI use. They said Uganda’s youthful tech savvy population presents an opportunity to accelerate innovation but only if businesses move decisively.

With global markets rapidly evolving, the message from experts was clear, companies that act now will gain a competitive edge, while those that delay risk being left behind in the next wave of digital transformation.
