KAMPALA.
The Special Forces Command (SFC), an elite unit guarding President Museveni has initiated an investigations into allegations of high-handedness by some of its officers.
The inquiry follows a complaint by Mr Mark Agaba who posted on X (Twitter ) detailing the harrowing experience of his brother, a boda boda rider, who was tortured as he was rushing to rescue his pregnant wife.
According to Agaba’s account, the incident occurred when the President’s convoy passed through town, and SFC officers stopped all vehicles and motorists as part of standard security protocols.
Agaba’s brother, among the boda boda riders halted that day, was rushing home to assist his pregnant wife, who had slipped in the bathroom and needed urgent help.
“Respecting the security protocols, he parked his bike to proceed on foot and find another ride. But as he moved his bike near a police post, SFC officers grabbed him, beat him, and shoved him into a car boot. He was taken away for two days and returned home—with his toenails missing,” Mr Agaba posted on his X account.
Tragically, the wife lost her baby during this time and is still recovering.
In response, the SFC has pledged to investigate and get to the very bottom of the matter.
“The SFC has taken deliberate steps to investigate the matter to establish its full details,” a statement from the SFC read. “Mr Agaba has been contacted and asked to link us up with the said victim with the view of getting any information that could lead to the apprehension of those who could have committed the alleged crime.”
The SFC has also instituted an internal inquiry into the matter, effective immediately. The command is seeking information from the public and any individuals who may have details about the incident or other similar events.
“We call upon the general public and any other persons that could help avail further details on the same or any other events,” the SFC statement added. “We thank you and pledge to get to the very bottom of this matter.”
