Busia Municipality PFF MP Aspirant Charged With Misprision of Treason

A parliamentary aspirant for Busia Municipality under the People’s Front for Freedom has appeared before the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court on charges related to failing to report alleged treason plot involving Rt. Col Dr. Kiiza Besigye .

46 -year-old Samuel Makokha, a resident of Kulambiro in Nakawa Division, has been arraigned before Chief Magistrate Allan Gakyalo, where the single charge of misprison of Treason has been read to him.

The offence arises from allegations that Makokha failed to report information authorities believe was linked to an alleged treason plot involving Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Makokha has however denied the charge.

According to the charge sheet, between 2023 and 2024, Makokha and others still at large, at various locations in Kampala, Busia, and Kisumu in Kenya, allegedly knew that Col. Rtd Dr. Kizza Besigye intended to commit treason and did not relay that information to the Minister, an Administrative Officer, a Magistrate, or a Police Officer, nor did they use reasonable means to prevent the offence.

Prosecution led by Mariam Kuruthum has told court that investigations are still ongoing.

Chief Magistrate Gakyalo has declined to entertain the bail request and adjourned the matter to December 16th for hearing of the application.

Makokha’s case is part of an investigation involving opposition figure, including Dr. Kizza Besigye, Hajj Obeid Lutale, and Capt. Denis Oola, who are facing charges of treason before the Highcourt .

The allegation is that Dr. Besigye and his aide Hajji Lutale mobilised and organised campaigns aimed at overthrowing the government.

The alleged plot reportedly was done in several locations, including Geneva- Switzerland, Athens- Greece , Nairobi- Kenya and Kampala.
