Butambala MP Kivumbi returns to court today for bail application

BUTAMBALA.

The Butambala County Member of Parliament Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi ,who is on remand at Kitalya Prison on terrorism charges is today expected to appear in court .

Through his lawyers Lukwago and Company Advocates , Muwanga is expected to apply for bail before Butambala Chief Magistrate Deo Ssejjemba and see if he can regain his freedom .

Prosecution alleges that between the 11th and 17th of January 2026, in various places across the country including Gombe and Kibibi Town Council in Butambala District, Kivumbi and others still at large carried out acts aimed at influencing or intimidating the government for political or economic purposes.

The State alleges that the Kivumbi without regard to public safety, orchestrated an attack on Kibibi Police Station and the Butambala Electoral Commission tally centre, damaged sections of the Butambala–Gomba Road, and destroyed several vehicles.

Early this month when Kivumbi appears on court prosecution, represented by Racheal Bihole, further told court that the alleged acts were prejudicial to national security and resulted in the death of seven people, including Sarah Nagayi, Aisha Nabukenya, Milly Nampereza and Ruth Nakanjako.

Others who died are ; Davis Basaliza , Abdulnoor Nsabu and Shafiq Miiro.

Kivumbi, who is also the National Unity Platform deputy president for Buganda region, was arrested from his home in Buwaate, a Kampala suburb , and detained overnight at Kira Division Police Headquarters before being transferred to Butambala Court .

Kuvumbi contested for the Butambala County parliamentary seat on the NUP ticket, but lost to journalist –turned –politician Eriasa Mukiibi in the January 15 elections.
