
Kampala Metropolitan Archbishop emeritus Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala, Monday, December 15, 2025, Clocked 99, making him the second-oldest living cardinal in the Catholic Church after Apostolic Nuncio Angelo Cardinal Acerbi.
Cardinal Wamala, who was dressed in a red cassock, was joined by fellow priests, including Kampala archbishop Paul Ssemogerere, at the Kisubi Seminary Beach to celebrate his 99th birthday.
The cardinal, who is now living a quiet life, praying, reading, resting and doing light exercise, has been out of the public eye since July 2017.
