Chimpanzee Census Results: Uganda has 426 Chimps- report.

Uganda Wildlife Authority(UWA) in partnership with JaneGoodallInst has today officially unveiled the results of the 2025 Chimpanzee Census in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The inaugural census, conducted in two sweeps between May and September 2025, estimates a total population of 426 chimpanzees in the park.

“This milestone marks an important step in strengthening conservation efforts and deepening our understanding of chimpanzee populations in Bwindi,” James Musinguzi, Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) said during the launch of the report at UWA offices, Kampala, Tuesday.

Meanwhile during the same event Talia Birungi Kandole, Little Hands Go Green Ambassador and Founder of the 1 Million Trees Planting Initiative Uganda. Through her dedication and influence, mobilized Shs700,000 UGX towards the Uganda Wildlife Marathon. The proceeds will go to support the education of children of fallen wildlife rangers. “Planting hope. Protecting wildlife. Empowering the next generation,” Birungi said. Ends.
