KAMPALA.
President Museveni has urged ruling National Resistance Movement members to elect leaders who truly understand the party ideology and principles.
Appearing at the NRM Secretariat on Plot 10 Kyadondo Road in Kampala on Saturday to pick expression of interest forms to run for both the position of party presidential flag bearer and NRM party National Chairperson, Mr Museveni said NRM newly elected district leaders have a duty to maintain impartiality and steer clear of corruption ,which has dogged his government for years .

“ I encourage party members to priotise leaders who truly understand the party’s ideology and principles . It is important not to elect individuals who are driven by personal agendas instead of focusing on the national interest ,” he said
Museveni’s son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba,51 ,who is also the Chief of Uganda’s Defence Forces (CDF), has in the past one year been stirring social media with posts endorsing his ageing father as he warned that no civilian would be allowed to take over from Mr Museveni who has ruled Uganda since 1986 after shooting his way to State House through a five-year guerilla warfare.

Gen Muhoozi who also serves as senior presidential advisor special operations called on his “supporters” to vote his father in next year ‘s general election after declaring that he (Muhoozi) had dropped his presidential bid.
The former head of the elite Special Forces Command (SFC) charged with protecting the First Family and government’s key installations has over two years been traversing the country holding public birthday celebrations and events in what critics said was strategizing to inherit the presidency.
In one of his posts on X Gen Muhoozi, who joined UPDF in 1999 at the rank of officer cadet and graduated in 2,000 from the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst (the British Army’s officer training school) said: “The security forces will not allow it. The next leader will be a soldier or policeman.”

It is widely believed that when Museveni reaches at point where he can not handle state affairs , Gen.Muhoozi will definitely takeover from him. It remains to be seen whether the wish of the Kaguta family will come to pass .
