JINJA — The Commissioner for the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps at State House, Hellen Seku, has called on students in Busoga to uphold patriotism, discipline, and strong moral values as key pillars for national development.

Seku made the remarks during a monitoring and evaluation visit to Busoga College Mwiri, where she addressed both students and staff on the importance of civic awareness and responsible citizenship.

She urged school administrators to ensure that learners are well-informed about government support in the education sector, noting that lack of awareness can lead to misunderstanding of the state’s role.

“The school leadership should clearly communicate what government provides so that students appreciate the support they receive,” she said.

The commissioner also praised the school for its environmental conservation initiatives, highlighting creative practices such as recycling plastic bottles into useful items and planting fruit trees around the campus. She encouraged students to maintain cleanliness and adopt sustainable habits.

“Students should avoid wasting food and dispose of waste responsibly. Protecting the environment is essential for our well-being,” she added.

Seku emphasized the importance of faith and integrity, noting that moral values are essential in shaping responsible citizens. She encouraged learners to remain disciplined and avoid behaviors that could compromise their future

She further called on students to embrace patriotism and hard work, reminding them of their constitutional duty to contribute to the country’s progress.

“There is only one Uganda, and it is our responsibility to protect and develop it,” she said.

During the interaction, a student, Watolya Musa, appealed to Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to consider appointing a Presidential Advisor dedicated to secondary schools, citing the need for greater focus on the sector.

Seku’s visit is part of ongoing efforts by the National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps to instill civic responsibility, discipline, and national pride among young people across Uganda.
