According to an eyewitness and driver of the bus who only identified himself as Timothy, the crash was a result of speeding by the driver of the commuter taxi.

He said the road section between Namuganga trading centre and Mubende Town currently has a lot of dust due to the ongoing works, which affects visibility, but many motorists speed, putting the lives of passengers at risk.

“I chose to stop when I saw a commuter taxi coming at a terrible speed, but due to the dust, its driver didn’t see the bus, thus ramming into the bus,” he said

He said apart from the ill-fated commuter taxi driver who survived with minor injuries, some of the other occupants are believed to have died.

By Monday morning Police were yet to release an official statement confirming the number of casualties, as emergency responders and investigators assess the scene.
