
KAMPALA. Diana Ampaire has won the flag for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to contest for National Youth Member of Parliament (Female) .
Ampaire won a commanding 58.6 percent of the vote in party primaries held nationwide on Thursday
According to results announced by NRM Electoral Commission Vice Chairperson Fred Jachan Omach, Ampaire collected 1,912 votes out of 3,262 cast, defeating her closest rival Mercy Kanyesigye, who secured 1,269 votes (38.9 percent ).
Other contenders gathered fewer votes , including Gold Ikyiriza with 41 votes, Suzan Katusiime 21, Sandra Sarah Chebet 12, and Olivia Kobusingye 7.
“I therefore declare Diana Ampaire as the duly elected NRM flag bearer National Youth Member of Parliament (Female),” Omach said in the official declaration.
The vote was part of a wider exercise to elect NRM Youth and Entrepreneurs’ League leaders and youth MP flag bearers, an election process that had been postponed last month following disputes over candidate eligibility.
