€1.7 Million Italian Support to Strengthen Uganda’s Private Sector

The Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI), under the leadership of President Olive Kigongo, has welcomed a €1.7 million support package from the Government of Italy, aimed at strengthening Uganda’s private sector through institutional capacity building and support to selected value chains. The agreement was officially signed between the Government of Uganda and the Italian Government, marking a renewed commitment to fostering economic growth and private sector competitiveness.

UNCCI expressed its deep appreciation to the Italian Government for this valuable partnership and dedication to Uganda’s economic transformation. In her remarks, Ms. Kigongo reaffirmed UNCCI’s commitment to championing the interests of the private sector, noting that such collaborations are vital for empowering local enterprises, creating jobs, and enhancing national competitiveness.

“A vibrant private sector is the backbone of sustainable national development,” Ms. Kigongo emphasized. “We call upon all stakeholders to work together to ensure the successful implementation of this initiative.”

During the event, Mr. Andrea Carapellese, representing UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and the team of consultants, revealed that they are currently on a fact-finding mission to identify the most suitable private sector organization to partner with for this transformative project.

“Today we’re on a fact-finding mission and have held meetings with many organizations,” said Mr. Carapellese. “We shall submit our findings to our superiors, who will then recommend the best institution to work with in driving change within Uganda’s private sector.”

This collaboration between Uganda, Italy, and UNIDO reflects a shared commitment to unlocking Uganda’s industrial and entrepreneurial potential, paving the way for sustainable growth and a stronger, more resilient private sector.
