
MASAKA. National Unity Platform (NUP) Principal Robert Kyagulanyi has expressed disappointment with the way his civilian bodyguard Edward Ssebuufu alias Eddie Mutwe was treated while in detention before being arraigned in Masaka Magistrates Court on Monday .
Eddie Mutwe was reportedly abducted on April 27 by security operatives attached to Special Forces Command (SFC) ,an elite unit guarding President Museveni and five days later the First Son and also Chief of Defense Forces Gen Muhoozi confirmed in post on X(Twitter ) that the abductee was in his ‘basement’ learning Runyakole , a popular local dialect .
After checking on Eddie Mutwe currently on remand at Masaka Main Prison Wednesday morning , Kyagulanyi said during their conversation the former narrated his detention ordeal where he was subjected to water boarding , electrocution , and beaten into coma.
“Comrade Eddie Mutwe is in great pain, he can’t sleep, he has wounds all over his body, he is also shivering ,he has not stabilized both mentally and physically, the prison health centre III where he gets treatment cannot handle his condition , we call upon the public to demand for his justice as they also pray for his recovery,” he told Journalists moments after visiting Eddie Mutwe and three other NUP members including; Achilleo Kivumbi, Gadafi Mugumya, and Grace Wakabi Smart, who are also incarcerated at the same prison .

The group is facing multiple counts of robbery, assault, and malicious damage to property.
Jane Nantumbwe, mother of Ssebuufu said she is worried about his son’s health and asked the government to swiftly allow him access better treatment outside the prison confines .
“We are not against his trial, but he should at least be given medical treatment and later face the charges ,” she said .
George Musisi, one of the NUP lawyers said they have embarked on securing bail for Eddie Mutwe .
“ We are considering getting a medical report and also going to ask the court to discontinue his trial since his human rights were violated during and after his arrest,”he said
According to prosecution alleges that on May 18, 2024, the quartet and others still at large, robbed Margaret Kayondo, a Masaka-based journalist with Radio Simba, at Manja Village in Lwengo District. He is expected to respected to reappear in court for mention his case on May 25, 2025
The accused reportedly took her green sweater and mobile phone valued at Shs730,000 and threatened her with sharp knives and sticks.
The court also heard that the group assaulted another journalist, Zainab Namusazi, a correspondent for NBS Television, causing her actual bodily harm. During the incident, her video camera, valued at Shs1.5 million, was reportedly destroyed.
The altercation occurred during the burial of Pascal Ssekasamba, a UK-based businessman and younger brother to former DP Secretary General Mathias Nsubuga. Journalists were allegedly blocked from covering the event as guards loyal to Bobi Wine attempted to restrict media movement.
Further allegations indicate that the group robbed another victim, Murungi Rodgers, of a jumper, a Spark 20 mobile phone worth Shs470,000, Shs200,000 in cash, and a national ID—all valued at Shs870,000—before using violence against him.
Other victims named in the case include John Mulazi, Drake Lubega, and Haruna Ssekito, whose phones were also stolen at the funeral.
The prosecution claims that the victims were caught up in a scuffle when Kyagulanyi’s four bodyguards attempted to block journalists from covering the funeral proceedings. They claim that the group, including Eddie Mutwe, stole Shs200,000 from Rodgers Mulungi and John Mukalaazi, besides assaulting Drake Lubega and Haruna Ssekitto, whose mobile phones were also reportedly stolen at the same funeral.
