Eight arrested for messing up NRM primaries –Museveni

KAMPALA.

President Museveni and also national chairperson of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has revealed that eight of those who messed up last Thursday party parliamentary primaries have been arrested .

In a communication posted on X(formerly Twitter ) on Monday ,Mr Museveni said police and other security agencies started the clamp down on those who altered the results during tallying .
“I want to assure you that the state agencies of Uganda have started

the necessary anti-crime actions against the self-seekers. They are
starting with the clear cases of the idiots alleged to have altered the
results in the tallying. Eight of them have been arrested. They are from
Mayuge, Buyende, Kapchorwa, Pader, Oyam, Rwampara, Kareenga
and Mbarara, ” he said

Mr Museveni other targets are being followed up and promised to give regular updates on the progress of the investigations .

“Meanwhile, get us evidence against the other offences of violence,
bribery and interfering with the registers.
I have constituted a committee of powerful lawyers to handle the
petitions.

We shall clean up the NRM as we also defend the wider
interests of all the Ugandans. ”he said
In an earlier statement on Sunday Mr Museveni condemned what he described as “mistakes“ of altering results tampering with registers ,using violence resulting in death and bribing voters with money during the party primaries .

He said all these actions were politically and ideologically wrong and must be condemned by all lovers of the NRM and Uganda .

“Why, then, do you tolerate and be used by the unpatriotic elements that pollute our beautiful process of democracy with violence, bribery, cheating, etc.? It is so annoying.

However, the good thing is that the mistakes they are committing, are also crimes by the law of the State of Uganda which renders them prosecutable, ” Mr Museveni said in a statement on Sunday .

“We are, therefore, going to prosecute these mistake-makers. The easiest to start with, are those who altered results.

Why? It is because the voting took place by lining behind candidates or their portraits during the day as and, therefore, each village knows who and how many voted for this one or that one. ”he added

“Where soldiers and Policemen are involved, you need to answer the question: Was it the soldier’s mistake or were some goons trying to disarm the security personnel as was being planned by the bankrupt leaders last year, July, when riots here were supposed to coincide with those of Kenya?”

It remains to be seen whether the culprits will be apprehended and justice delivered to those who unfairly lost elections , maimed or killed during the party polls .
