In the race for the Kawempe North parliamentary seat, National Unity Platform (NUP) has fielded Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola as their candidate for the highly anticipated by-election. A man of many roles, Nalukoola’s candidacy has generated significant interest due to his impressive background in law, his previous political affiliations, and his bold vision for the Kawempe North community.

A Strong Foundation in Education and Law
Born 42 years ago in Kirokole Village, Kawempe I Parish, Nalukoola is the son of Swaib Sserugooti Kajjankemba and Madiina Nantongo. His educational journey began at Kawempe Muslim Primary School, and later he attended Kyerima Umea Primary School and Kawempe Islamic Seminary. After completing his O-Level education at Nile SS (now Kinaawa High School), he advanced to Kawempe Muslim Secondary School for his A-Level, where he served as the head prefect.

Nalukoola’s academic achievements culminated in a Bachelor of Laws degree from Makerere University in 2010. Armed with his legal expertise, he established Nalukoola Advocates & Solicitors in 2016, further cementing his status as a prominent figure in Uganda’s legal landscape.

Political Journey and the Transition to NUP
Nalukoola’s foray into politics began with the Democratic Party (DP), where he served as the party’s national legal advisor until 2023. His departure from DP was marked by his dissatisfaction with the party’s cooperation agreement with President Museveni’s government. This departure was a pivotal moment, leading him to join NUP, Uganda’s largest opposition party, where he was selected as the candidate for the Kawempe North by-election.

His nomination process was not without controversy. Nalukoola was arrested on nomination day, a development that drew national attention and further intensified his political profile. Despite this setback, he remained resolute, vowing to continue his campaign for the people of Kawempe North.

Campaigning for the People of Kawempe North
Nalukoola’s campaign has been built on a foundation of people-centered leadership. As he moves through neighborhoods like Mpererwe and Komamboga, he has emphasized his commitment to justice, the rule of law, and community development. One of his core messages is the empowerment of residents, especially those in slums, where he hopes to push for better infrastructure, improved socio-economic conditions, and a more vibrant local economy.

In his campaign, Nalukoola has stressed the importance of engaging with his constituents. He has promised to listen to their needs and work tirelessly to advocate for their interests, including addressing the issues of youth unemployment, poverty, and inadequate housing in the area.

A Vision for a New Kawempe North
For Elias Nalukoola, the path forward is clear. With a focus on the welfare of the people, his political ambitions are rooted in fostering positive change and providing leadership that prioritizes the rule of law and equitable growth. His commitment to spiritual and community development during the Ramadan season also underscores his personal belief in service to others.

As the by-election heats up, Kawempe North residents can expect a vigorous campaign, as Nalukoola positions himself as a candidate who will bring both legal expertise and genuine care for his community to the political stage.

Elias Luyimbazi Nalukoola’s candidacy for Kawempe North promises to add an intriguing dynamic to the region’s political landscape. A lawyer, former political adviser, and passionate advocate for his community, Nalukoola is not just seeking office—he is fighting for the future of Kawempe North.
