The State Minister for Micro Finance, Mr Haruna Kasolo has advised internal auditors to embrace the saving culture and invest in projects that will help them in future .
‘’There are people who get hefty salaries ,but at the end of the day have nothing in their pockets, this has to change ” the minister said while opening a two- day annual workshop for all Local Government internal auditors in Masaka City on March 5 ,2026.
The minister further advised internal auditors also to target money which the government is injecting in sectors like Agriculture and utilize it efficiently in order to improve their livelihoods .
‘’You should avoid being fundraised for when you fall sick , start saving now because the money you save now will save your life tomorrow, other people can simply make a top up if the money is not enough ,” he added.
During the same workshop , launched the internal auditors Sacco and challenged them to ensure that it stands the test of time .
‘’You should have a sense of ownership for the Sacco through saving and credit . Some Saccos that are not run well collapse even after receiving financial support from government,’’ Mr Kasolo said
He commended internal auditors for helping the government through auditing various government projects and institutions , giving accountability and ensuring that public resources are properly utilized.
Earlier, the chairperson of Local Government Internal Auditors Association Mr Justus Musimenta noted that they face several challenges like inadequate funding and asked the government to support their activities .
‘’Offices like the Inspectorate General of Government might not be necessary if we are well funded,” He said
In response, Mr Kasolo said he will see how his Ministry can support the Auditors’ Sacco.
“ On the issue of lack of transport , I advise you to utilise local government vehicles in your respective districts as government devises means of procuring vehicles for auditors ,” he said
