KAYUNGA .
Residents in Ntenjeru North Constituency, Kayunga District have a reason to smile after receiving an ambulance they have been waiting for a decade .
The new ambulance will be stationed at Kangulumira Health Centre IV where local leaders organised a party to celebrate this milestone on Monday .
In attendance was Ms Mariam Seguya, the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Ntenjeru North Member of Parliament, Mr Patrick Nsanja, Mr Andrew Muwonge, the district chairman and a host district and local council officials.
“We have waited for sixteen years to get another ambulance after the one which was a pick-up broke down. Since then we have been finding challenges in getting patients who need ambulance services to the Regional Referral hospital,” Dr Kareem Kigozi ,the officer in charge of the health centre said .
He noted that with the Kayunga-Jinja and Kampala-Jinja highways being prone to motor crashes , the ambulance would help in saving lives.
Mr Patrick Nsanja, the Ntenjeru North MP cautioned the ambulance management team against politicising the ambulance services noting that it should be used by all people regardless of their political affiliation.
“I lobbied for this ambulance from government ,but some people think it just came by itself. Some people politick a lot and mix issues of development with politics. We should desist from such bad politics,” Mr Nsanja said
He promised to ensure that the ambulance is well maintained and remains in sound state to serve the people in district.
The RDC Ms Seguya who commended the government for the donation cautioned residents against engaging in divisive politics, noting that even after elections they will stay in the same village.
“The elections are around the corner but there is no need of fighting one another simply because you don’t support the same candidate ” she said.
Mr Andrew Muwonge, Kayunga District chairperson asked the driver of the ambulance not carry cargo ,but instead focus on official duties .
