MBARARA .The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) has unveiled yet another regional offices –this time in the Western part of the country .
Like the Eastern regional offices in Iganga District commissioned recently, the new offices in Mbarara City were secretly constructed and both the security and public knew about the project at the launch on Friday.
The offices, located adjacent to Independence Park Grounds, was commissioned by NUP presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine.
Party Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya revealed that the land was purchased more than a year ago, with construction quietly completed without public knowledge.
“We’re glad that information about this place was kept under wraps for over a year and so we were able to avoid the usual sabotage by the regime. Grateful to our leader Bobi Wine and the leaders with whom we work, for it takes discipline and sacrifice,” Rubongoya said.
Kyagulanyi emphasised that the strategic location of the headquarters is central to strengthening NUP’s activities in Western Uganda.

“We built this headquarters without anyone knowing and opened it without anyone knowing, and that is how we shall unseat Museveni without anyone knowing. We don’t want to remove him by force because we are peaceful people,” Kyagulanyi said.

He dedicated the new regional headquarters to the late Jolly Kyomugasho Mugisha, the party’s Deputy President for Western Uganda, who passed away earlier this week at Mbarara Hospital.
Leader of Opposition in Parliament Joel Ssenyonyi, who also serves as the party spokesperson, said the Mbarara ‘command center’ will oversee and coordinate all NUP activities in the wider Western region.
